Creating art is about having a conversation with oneself. We express our feelings and allow that to show in our work. This takes courage and it’s what makes good art, because it’s the truth in art that we relate to.
Learning to create this way is like playing jazz. Its improvisation and requires being fully present. It’s playful, spontaneous and intuitive. It’s an opportunity to explore our human experience.
It has taken many months to arrive here, or perhaps lifetimes. I’ve wandered through numerous expressions, none of them feeling like home, nor a place I would have wanted to stay for long. All the images I have created around my healing process have felt complete as an expression of that moment. But I suppose there is no final moment nor final image, as life just continues to present with the need for all types of healings and adjustments. We navigate our lives as clearly as we can with the circumstances we’ve been given and there is an acceptance of that. The old saying “we do the best we can with the resources we have” is an ongoing mantra.
I feel in the image above, that I have given myself space and calmness. The ancestral images of the past were up front and, in my face, much of the time and I recently decided it was time to disperse that energy. The chairs from the table (see below) have been spread out in the above image, many of the ancestors replaced by spiritual ancestors.
