The Habitat of Birds
I am a bird. They’ve been showing up in my work from the beginning. At first it was the photo of chickens at the market in Alexandria, Egypt. Then the chickens in India. In Mexico, the egrets and cranes. They remind me I am not bound to this earth. They link me to my spirit.
Today I am an Ibis. She was created using two different images from two different birds. This allows her to be anything she wants because of course, she is all about freedom. At first I thought she was my ego but as she evolved, I realize she is my mentor.
The Ibis was a sacred bird associated with Thoth, the God ofWisdom and Writing in ancient Egypt. He had the head of an Ibis and the body of a man. He was a shape shifter and a means of transport. The Ibis is about trusting our inner instinct and trusting our timing. Creating art is also about trusting our instincts and trusting our timing. Placing seemingly random images without an idea of what it will look like is a reminder that something else in the creative process is at work and that our personal work will reveal to us an inner knowing that our rational mind simply inhibits.
