It’s a very different experience when shooting in black and white from the outset…not converting color to black and white but viewing the moment in front of you in black and white. It’s difficult in India to choose to do this because the colors are so exquisite, the saris and buses and shops filled with fabrics are spectacular. I shot in black and white in both Rawla Narlai and in Varanasi. Of course the timeless quality of black and white and the timelessness of India go together so well… but it was a great exercise in capturing the essence of India in a new way for me.
