The iChing is a Book of Wisdom that scholars study for a lifetime, that you could study for a lifetime. With each understanding, we peel away subtle layers towards a deeper, profound and personal spiritual evolution.
Giving form to the seemingly chaotic periods in our life, bypassing the mind’s perspective and embracing the intuitive is a way of self discovery using your art, your images, your photography.
“I am scared to look for fear of discovering how shallow my self is! I will persist however…because the camera has its eye on the exterior world. Camera will lead my constant introspection back into the world…”
“every photograph
A celebration.
Every moment of understanding a birthday” Minor White
Each week I will present a hexagram of the iChing from my book along with the understanding it revealed. It was my personal experience at the time and and as we each evolve the understandings grow, different images emerge.
As you create your art spontaneously and with complete freedom, it’s possible to step back and see what it reveals, as you read through the Book of Changes for the hexagram that best expresses the image you have created.
I don’t have specific iChing books to recommend, there are many available. I suggest you go and choose the one you want to read and add your own personal revelations to the images you create.
Name: Ch’ien
Keyphrase: The Creative.
Formed By The Trigrams: Heaven over Heaven
1. Overview: Ch’ien is pure yang energy. Being pure yang it indicates a time when you are in a good position to achieve your objectives (whatever they may be). However, it is a time of potential as there is a lack of yin influence. So now is the time to make those plans and get ready to put them into action. Plan thoroughly and don’t be impatient. Although Ch’ien is an auspicious hexagram, for your plans to have a lasting effect and value your motives need to be virtuous. Be compassionate when you move forward. If you are arrogant you will only breed complacency or resentment in those around you.
